West Brom rival Norwich for Ola Toivonen

Premier League rivals Norwich have agreed a £4million fee for West Brom target Ola Toivonen – but the Baggies have not given up on signing the PSV Eindhoven ace.

The 26-year-old striker is a long-standing target at the Hawthorns, but the Canaries have made the first move for the Sweden international by striking a deal with his club.

He is chasing a switch to the Premier League but PSV's technical director Marcel Brands hinted the story has some way to run after confirming the agreement with Norwich.

He said: "There is real interest in Toivonen but, more-over, from more clubs than Norwich."

The experienced frontman is available for a cut-price £4million, as he prepares to enter the final year of his PSV contract openly expressing his dissatisfaction with the team's style of football.

He said last week when asked about a move to the English top flight: "It is always interesting. I don't know, it's hard to say what league would suit me. It depends on which team you come to.

"There are teams who like to play long balls and those who like to play by the ground. I prefer the latter."

That fits the bill for West Brom, where it's also impossible to ignore that he shares an agent – former Sweden striker Martin Dahlin – with current players Jonas Olsson and Markus Rosenberg.

The speculation about Toivonen comes as other transfer-seeking overseas stars were linked to the club.

Anderlecht forward Dieumerci Mbokani, who West Brom's scouts have watched twice, has followed up reports of interest by admitting he also wants a move to England.

He has been publicly recommended by pal Romelu Lukaku, who will at least start the pre-season firmly entrenched in the plans of new Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.

That has fuelled an inevitable rush of speculation about who West Brom will turn to should the Belgian star win a permanent place in Mourinho's plans.

Also, reports in Spain maintain that head coach Steve Clarke is keen on a player he knows well from his Chelsea days, Portugal midfielder Tiago, 32, who is poised to leave Atletico Madrid.
