Ben Foster: Best-ever form from Gareth McAuley

West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster today insisted Player of the Season Gareth McAuley is in the form of his life after signing a new Baggies contract at the age of 33.

The Northern Ireland international put pen to paper last week on a new two-year deal after getting his Premier League chance with West Brom two years ago.

And, despite the popular centre-back's age, Foster believes there is more to come from the former Leicester and Ipswich stopper.

Foster said: "He's amazing. He's 33 and is showing no signs of letting up. His pace is frightening. He keeps up with the young lads.

"It's a big thing for him to sign this contract. He's played all his career in the lower leagues so to finally get into the Premier League in his thirties is something that doesn't happen often.

"But he's taken it all in his stride. He's a pleasure to play with and great to have in front of you."

Foster and McAuley helped the Baggies claim a best-ever Premier League finish of eighth this season.

And Foster revealed his pride at helping the club achieve their highest top-flight finish for 33 years, but admitted a tinge of disappointment they finished one short of their points target.

He said: "We want to pass that 50-point barrier next season. I think everybody would agree that we took our foot off the gas a little bit.

"I don't think anybody could complain, though. It's really nice to finish eighth, I'm happy at that.

"The gaffer told us it is the best season since 1980-81, so we should all be very proud."
