West Brom on the trail of Leeds' Sam Byram
West Brom are keeping tabs on highly-rated Leeds defender Sam Byram as they plan for the summer transfer window.
Baggies boss Steve Clarke and assistant Keith Downing watched the 19-year-old full-back in action at Wolves on Saturday.
Albion are eyeing up potential long-term successors to current right-back Steven Reid and are believed to have added Byram to their 'watchlist'.
Byram only made his Football League debut in August but has been a virtual ever-present for Neil Warnock's side this season and has already carved out a reputation as one of the hottest prospects outside the Premier League. Everton are believed to be keen on the 6ft tall defender while neighbours Liverpool, who Albion face at Anfield tonight, are also thought to be monitoring the youngster.
He has made 38 appearances in the Leeds first team and can also operate as a winger or defensive midfielder.
Reid's Hawthorns contract has another 18 months to run and, fitness permitting, Albion believe the 31-year-old can continue to play a key role for Clarke's side.
And Billy Jones also hopes to push his claims for a regular berth in the side after impressing on occasions in the last two seasons as understudy for Reid.
