West Brom preparing transfer hit-list for summer

New sporting chief Richard Garlick today revealed West Brom already have a summer transfer hit-list – but January signings are unlikely.

Hawthorns officials already have plans in place for the close season with on-loan full-back Goran Popov's permanent move from Dynamo Kiev a likely early deal.

New sporting & technical director Garlick said: "The plans for target positions and what we want to do with the squad in the summer has already been formulated.

"We have also, through our systems, got a good idea of who could fill those slots and we're very comfortable that we know where we want to be in the summer and who we're looking at.

"Things will change and people will become available and we will react to that, but all in all I would hope the plan we've got will remain in place for that period."

Garlick reiterated head coach Steve Clarke's message that new faces are unlikely at the Hawthorns during the current transfer window, although he refused to rule out signings completely.

He said: "We are very happy with the squad and there are no immediate plans to bring anybody in. If an opportunity presented itself – the right opportunity – we would always be happy to look at that.

"We don't sit here saying 'we're not looking to bring anybody in so we're not doing anything'."

Popov's move from Dynamo seems likely to be completed. The Baggies have a permanent deal 'locked-in' for the summer, meaning they are not at risk of the Macedonia man being poached by another club.

Meanwhile, Garlick revealed Queens Park Rangers have made no contact with the Baggies over striker Peter Odemwingie since a £2million bid was rejected 10 days ago.

He said: "We had an offer, which was rejected, and we don't intend to sell any of our players during this window.

"When offers come in we speak to the players out of courtesy and let them know what the situation is.

"We have had that chat with Peter and he knows what the club's position is on it."

Reports linking West Brom to Brentford midfielder Harry Forrester are, meanwhile, wide of the mark.
