The 19-year-old midfielder made just his second Premier League start at Old Trafford just two days after being recalled from his successful loan spell at Peterborough.

And, after catching the eye in the absence of injured duo Claudio Yacob and Youssouf Mulumbu, Thorne is hoping to push his first-team claims with Mulumbu set to leave next month for the Africa Cup of Nations.

He said: "Ultimately, I want to be a West Brom starting player. I got my chance because of a few injuries and absences and, if I get another chance, I will have to take it and give the gaffer something to think about.

"If a situation arises where the injured players come back fit and I'm not involved we will have to sit down and look at it again.

"But, for now, I am around the team and involved so we will see what happens in the coming weeks. I hope for more chances but I'm not sure on the situation is with Claudio and when he will be back."
