Walsall 0-2 Morecambe – Player ratings

Following Walsall's disappointing loss to Morecambe, Liam Keen rates the Saddlers players on their performance.

Published

Jack Rose - 5

The goalkeeper’s distribution was too slow at times, to the frustration of his team-mates. He made a good save for the second goal but failed to push it away from his goal, resulting in Yann Songo’o finishing from close range.

Hayden White - 6

White probably put in the best performance of the back four. In the first half he was very good going forward and used his pace and power to good effect.

Dan Scarr - 4

A poor error for the first goal that derailed his side’s performance. It had a big hand in the overall result and left his team with a difficult task.

James Clarke - 5

Not his usual commanding self in the second half. He looked after the ball well in the first half but that is not enough to earn a high rating considering the overall result.

Max Melbourne - 5

Melbourne was not far behind White with his performance but lacked the same intensity going forward. Overall OK but not enough.

Sam Perry - 6

Perry looked after the ball well in midfield and won plenty of duels in the air. He passed it around well, too, but had little going on in front of him.

Liam Kinsella - 7

Kinsella, perhaps, put in the best performance of the afternoon from a team that failed to inspire. He pressed well and won the ball back high up the pitch. It was a shock to see him come off.

Emmanuel Osadebe - 5

Following some very good performances, Osadebe was disappointing in this game. He failed to get on the ball in important areas and was unable to influence proceedings going forward.

Tyreik Wright - 6

In the first half Wright was electric and did well. He was desperate for a goal. In the second he had moments of impressive play but was unable to get on the ball. He was the best performer of the attacking players.

Josh Gordon - 5

Gordon held the ball up well and, as always, worked very hard. However, the delivery into him was poor and as a result he failed to get on the front foot. He also missed one good chance in the box.

Wes McDonald - 5

A player with clear talent but it has not quite come together for him this season and in particular since Brian Dutton took charge. He frustrated his team-mates, and those in attendance, at times by holding onto the ball for too long.
