Brian Dutton blasts Walsall for lack of fight

Brian Dutton has bemoaned his Walsall charges for a lack of fight and personality in their poor 2-0 loss at home to Salford City.

A fairly bright first 15 minutes was cancelled out by a dominant performance by the visitors as the Saddlers crumbled and failed to threaten.

Dutton, visibly angry with his side’s showing, was upset with his players and has demanded more.

“Salford are a top team,” Dutton said.

“Everybody knows the spending power they have and they have quality players. They made it very difficult for us.

“But I was boiling up inside after that performance. That wasn’t a representation of me or Walsall football club.

“Sloppy goals we’ve given away. The first one was a massive defensive error and then I think the second one was offside but we’re still too deep.

“We’ve been outfought, outbattled and outwit. We showed no character and personality in possession.

“It’s taken until the 90th minute before a defender has trusted a midfielder. The midfielder has received it on his back foot and has put a forward pass in behind.

“The 90th minute. That’s shocking.”

Meanwhile, Dutton has revealed the club are still waiting for news on Rory Holden after the attacking midfielder had his knee examined on Monday.

“He’s had his knee looked at but it’s an ongoing process which is going to probably take another few days at least before we get some clarification,” Dutton added.

“The wheel is in motion with Rory, he’s had one appointment and now he’s going to have a couple appointments off the back of that.

“It’ll be two or three more days before we have a bit more clarity.”
