The head coach originally penned a deal until the end of the season after taking over from Darrell Clarke in February.

Dutton’s fortunes have started to turn with consecutive victories under his belt and with Jamie Fullarton coming in as the technical director this week, the club is already planning for next season.

“I always plan for long-term,” Dutton said.

“Whether that’s misplaced, time will tell, but everything I do is with a long-term vision. That’s why I promote youth. I try and look after the long-term future of the football club, I think that’s important.

“It would be selfish of me to think short-term and look after number one.

“Until someone tells me any different, and I’m not in work, then that’s what I’ll continue to do.”

When asked, however, if he has spoken with the hierarchy about him staying on next season, Dutton added: “In broad terms the chairman and I do speak about after this season, but there’s been no definite conversations on things.

“I want to stay at Walsall and give the football club success, but I’m not in control of that destiny.

“All I’m in control of is winning games.”
