Liam Roberts – 7

The goalkeeper had little to do, but did the basics well. His distribution has improved in a short space of time. He could do nothing about the goal.

Cameron Norman – 6

Norman made a good start to the game but was unfortunate to take a knock so early on that ended his afternoon after 30 minutes. Fortunately it was only a dead leg as he should be one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Hayden White – 8

Perhaps his best performance in Walsall colours. Alongside the rest of the back three he was superb. He carried the ball out well.

Dan Scarr – 8

This writer can occasionally be harsh on Scarr, because so much is expected of him with his defensive qualities. He showed that all in this game and dominated his attacking opponents.

Mat Sadler – 8

A born leader who utilises his experience throughout the game. Sadler can rough it with strong forwards and play smart. He looks after the ball well.

Max Melbourne – 8

Again, possibly his best performance in a Walsall shirt. Melbourne added an extra dimension in attack, something he has been trying to achieve in recent weeks. There is potential with him at left-wing-back.

Sam Perry – 7

Only his second league start and Perry slotted in perfectly. Having Kinsella alongside him helps, but the youngster protected the ball well and distributed simply. He did, at times, give it away but he was not afraid to try.

Liam Kinsella – 9

Kinsella was sorely missed during his suspension and he showed why. With bundles of energy he won the ball back time and again. Without a doubt one of the best ball-winning midfielders in the league.

Emmanuel Osadebe – 8

As with some of his team-mates this also could go down as Osadebe’s best Walsall display. He won the ball back eagerly, ran the hard yards for his team but also added a creative spark that they so desperately needed.

Josh Gordon – 7

A battling performance that was an improvement on recent weeks. He needs a goal.

Caolan Lavery – 7

A hard-working display from Lavery who ran his socks off. Should have scored or set up Osadebe.
