The Lincoln City loanee has impressed since joining in January and has been a key figure in Brian Dutton's team since he took charge.

When he joined the 22-year-old revealed former boss Darrell Clarke told him he could earn a deal at the Banks's Stadium if he does well.

Walsall often bring in loan players with a view to keeping them beyond their temporary stay and although Melbourne will entertain that idea, he is adamant his focus is on finishing the season well.

"At the moment I'm still contracted as a Lincoln player and I'm not too sure what is going on with things at the moment," Melbourne said.

"It's something that I would definitely be open to but I'm just looking forward to playing as many games as possible, whether that's in a Lincoln shirt or a Walsall shirt.

"I've really enjoyed my time here and settled in really well.

"Quite a few of the lads are out of contract so the club has to sit down and either sign new players or sort the contracts out.

"At the moment I'm contracted as a Lincoln player and my focus is on getting my games and in the summer I can review and see where I'm at.

"It's great to be back playing again, every footballer wants to be playing as much football as they can.

"Walsall has given me the opportunity to do that again and I'm coming in every day to work.

"I'm really enjoying myself and can't wait to get out there on Tuesday and Saturday nights."
