Cameron Norman: The goals will come for Walsall

Walsall full-back Cameron Norman says the goals will ‘definitely’ come soon – and that every Saddlers player has a responsibility to chip in.

Darrell Clarke’s side have found goals hard to come by so far in League Two, scoring 12 in 11 matches.

They are hoping to put it together against basement boys Southend at the Banks’s tomorrow, though, and Norman believes it is only a matter of time before they start flooding in.

“I think it’s just about turning that amount of time we have with the ball and the chances we create into goals,” he said. “Even though we pride ourselves on having good defensive stability, it’s up to all of us – from set pieces and in open play – to try to turn chances into goals.

“We’re confident that it’ll come, definitely, and we’ll keep working away at it.

“There’s no getting away from it, we want to be scoring more goals than we are right now. But we’re all confident that will come.”

And Norman insists it is not just down to the strikers to stop the rot.

“It’s not just the strikers who are going to score goals for us this season. It’s important all of us take that onto our shoulders – defenders scoring from corners and set pieces,” he said.

“That’s going to be a big part of every team’s season, so we’re definitely working on all areas.”

Walsall have a realistic chance of putting a few past Southend, who have conceded 25 goals already, but Norman says they cannot get ahead of themselves.

“I think I speak for everyone here in that we know the dangers of those kind of sides in that type of form,” he added.

“They’re looking for that one game to turn their season around, so we’ve got to be 100 per cent to make sure that doesn’t start with us.

“You have to be even more concentrated. There’s no reason to take our foot off the peddle or treat them any differently to any other side”
