Darrell Clarke will give new Walsall signings time to settle in

Walsall manager Darrell Clarke admits new signings Adan George and Jake Scrimshaw will need time to ‘bed in’ – but has vowed to give both minutes on the field.

The pair arrived on deadline day from Birmingham and Bournemouth respectively, signing on-loan until January.

With only a week of training under their belts, Clarke insists they will both need time before challenging Elijah Adebayo and Caolan lavery for a place in the starting XI.

“It’s early days and the games are coming so thick and fast, so it’s always difficult to settle two new players into the environment straight away,” he said.

“You’re forever prepping for games at the minute and that’s going to be for the foreseeable future.

“They will adjust, they will adapt. They’re good lads, have settled into the group well but obviously we have to get the training into them. They’ll be blended in carefully. Scrimmy came on the other day, we know what he’s going to give us and Adan will get his opportunities as we go along. They’ve only been in a few days so it’s about time.

“The spirit in the club is fantastic so there’s no problem with them bedding into a team environment.

“Bedding them in to how we go about it on the pitch and training is going to be important. They’re getting a lot of information from my staff and plenty of work on the training pitch to do that so they can hit the ground running.”

Scrimshaw made his Saddlers debut in a 10-minute cameo against Bradford on Tuesday and Clarke believes his experience on-loan elsewhere will serve him well.

“He played men’s football which is always a bonus, he scored goals at Poole and had a loan at Eastleigh, so it’s not a huge shock to the system (for him) playing men’s football,” he added.

“Adan has a decent size about him, has a good physique and looks like he’s more than capable of handling it.

“But we have to be a little bit careful about when we bed them in and how they come into the fold.

“A couple of fit centre forwards is all we have at the minute with those two coming in, so they’ll get plenty of minutes.”
