Walsall 1-1 Colchester - Player ratings

Following Walsall's 1-1 draw with Colchester United, reporter Liam Keen rates the players on their performance.

Published

Liam Roberts - 7

When called upon Roberts was solid and his distribution was on point. Another solid showing.

Cameron Norman - 8

Keeping up with his performances this season, Norman was again brilliant going forward and in defence. No complaints.

Dan Scarr - 7

Despite a couple errors in the early stages, Scarr did relatively well and had a back-and-forth battle with Jevani Brown.

James Clarke - 6

The skipper should have done better for Colchester's goal, but also should have had support from team-mates. He recovered from it well and improved as the game went on.

George Nurse - 6

Without the ball Nurse was superb as he defended against tricky wingers. With the ball, he often misplaced passes and looked slightly unfit at times. He's still getting up to speed.

Liam Kinsella - 8

Arguably Kinsella's best performance this season, he was everywhere and was always present when called upon. Flying into tackles and winning the ball back regularly. It was a man of the match contender performance

Danny Guthrie - 7

When in possession of the ball Guthrie showed his class and was the anchor in midfield. Without it, he struggled to keep up to the pace of the game and positionally was found wanting. He seems to be another player still regaining fitness.

Josh Gordon - 6

Gordon started well and linked up with Adebayo on several occasions, as well as doing his bit tracking back. His first-half injury was unfortunate and untimely, he will be a big loss if he's out for a while.

Rory Holden - 8

Playing as both an attacking midfielder and a right winger in this game, Holden impressed. He now seems far more aware of his own qualities and the job he has, while the management now seem to trust him.

Wes McDonald - 7

In the first half McDonald was quiet and in the second he was electric. That pattern has emerged several times this season and his team-mates need to find him more often. Nevertheless, he did well.

Elijah Adebayo - 9

Adebayo has strung together several impressive performances and now he's added his second goal of the season. The striker has been unplayable at times. When he's on his game, he could go places for Walsall this season. A brilliant man of the match performance.
