Despite being 27 years old, Walsall are only Lavery’s third permanent club after a string of loans.

This year, the forward wants to build off his 10 goals from last season, although he is remaining coy on his personal targets.

“As a player you can always improve,” he said.

“Different managers and coaching have different ideas, you might think you’re a certain type of player but there’s always people who come in and show what you can work on.

“I’m always willing to learn, so I’m definitely not the finished article by any means. You have targets as players, some like to share them, some don’t. I’m not going to share my targets. There’s definitely some personal targets and you want to improve every season, so that’s my aim.”
