Callum Cockerill-Mollett believes the left-side of a back three is his best position, but he hopes his versatility will shine through next season.

The defender played three different positions in his 15 appearances last season, at left-back, left-wing-back and left of a three.

Manager Darrell Clarke hinted that his best position may be part of a back three due to his defensive nature and the 21-year-old seems to agree.

"I feel comfortable in all three of those positions," he said.

"With left-wing-back I'm a bit more defensive than attacking, so that is a little bit difficult.

"I always try to adapt to the situation though, and play as best as I can.

"I feel that left-sided centre-half in a three is probably my best position. I feel comfortable there.

"It's quite a tough position to be honest, but I think I'm up to it and that is probably where I played best in my appearances last season."

The young defender has already outlined his desire to earn a starting XI berth next season and with Walsall moving away from a three at the back towards the end of the last campaign, Cockerill-Mollett is hoping his versatility is something his manager can rely on.

"It's something we can switch within games because we have players that can play in other positions," he said.

"If the gaffer sees it isn't working during a game he can easily switch it and get us back on top.

"It's good to have someone like Mat Sadler who has played at a high level and in similar positions to me. It's good to learn from and now he's added the coaching role I want to keep learning."
