Zak Jules: Walsall goals will flow

Zak Jules believes the goals will flow for Walsall’s strikers once they get a little bit of luck.

The Saddlers have struggled to find the target ever since the start of the new campaign – with Darrell Clarke’s side having scored just once in their last six outings.

Their latest blank came in Saturday’s uneventful clash at Colchester, which ended 0-0.

On paper, though, a strike force of Rory Gaffney, Josh Gordon, Elijah Adebayo and Caolan Lavery looks to have plenty of goals. And Jules is confident the forwards will soon hit top form.

“The Colchester game sums up the season so far,” Jules said. “We have got a pretty solid backline at the moment.

“But unfortunately we just fell short at the other end of the pitch.

“It’s going to take a lucky break for one of the lads I think, you know maybe one to go in off one of their shins or something like that.

“Then I’m sure they will push on and the goals will start flowing.

“We have just got to stick with them and hopefully we will be able to start bringing the three points home soon, starting this weekend with Bradford.”

While they Saddlers have struggled at to score goals, they have impressed at the back with the team having already registered four clean sheets.

That success has come despite Clarke rotating his central defenders.

Jules, Mat Sadler, Dan Scarr, James Clarke and Gary Liddle have all played at the heart of the defence this year.

“I think the backline have really gelled, even when we have been rotated, I don’t think it has upset anybody at all,” Jules continued. “

Everyone has got a point to prove here, the lads don’t want to be coming in and make mistakes, they want to come in and show that they can do a job.

“I think we have got a good relationship throughout the squad.”
