The 20-year-old was part of the Toffees' under-23 side that was crowned champions of Premier League 2 last season.

Kiersey was released by Everton at the end of the 2018/19 campaign. And he has now put pen to paper on a short-term contract at the Banks's Stadium.

The length of the deal – as has become policy under Darrell Clarke – has been left undisclosed.

But the boss confirmed the box-to-box midfielder has joined the club in a bid to earn a longer stay.

“Jack is someone I’ve monitored for a few years," the boss said.

"There were good reports coming out of Everton and he just missed out on getting a contract extension.

“He had an injury 18 months ago but he’s fully recovered from that and we’re hoping to turn him into a better player.

“It’s for the lad to prove himself over a short period and we’ll look to extend his contract if he produces the goods.”

Manchester-born Kiersey joined Everton's academy aged 10 and was named their under-18s’ Player of the Season back in 2017.

“It feels really good to be here,” he said.

“I’m really looking forward to getting started and seeing where the season goes. I want to get the club back up, win games and play.

“It was the right time to leave [Everton] as I want to play league football.

“It’s a big club and Darrell Clarke is a good manager with young players, so I was eager to get here.

“I’m a box-to-box midfielder. I like to defend, attack, score goals, pass and create.

“I know it’ll be physical but I want to get used to that as soon as possible.

"I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
