Blackett-Taylor, who joined the Saddlers on loan from Villa in January, has struggled for minutes since moving to the Banks’s Stadium.

But the 21-year-old impressed off the bench against Pompey with his pace and trickery causing all sorts of problems.

Keates revealed prior to the game Blackett-Taylor spoke to him about his lack of playing time. And the boss was pleased with the way he seized his chance.

“Performance-wise, Corey came on against Portsmouth and gave me something to think about,” the boss said.

“He livened the game up. He’s been waiting for his opportunity. He’s been a bit frustrated over the last few weeks and I had a chat with him the other day.

“He’s been champing at the bit to get an opportunity. But he came on, did well and has now given me something to think about for the weekend.”

Meanwhile, Keates believes 52 points will still be enough to stay in League One this year despite 12 teams still being involved in the scrap.

“I think 52 points will be enough,” he added.

“You can look at the league table and come up with different permutation’s, we’re just in a race for ourselves to get 52 points and we’ll go from there.”
