Manager Dean Keates has stated that the club have been in negotiations for a free agent and the Express and Star understands Martin is that man.

The centre-back had previously been on trial at West Bromwich Albion with ex-Norwich teammate Wes Hoolahan.

Baggies boss Darren Moore opted to offer a short-tern contract to Hoolahan, but declined an option on Martin

Should the 32-year-old put pen to paper, the signing will represent a real coup for the Saddlers with Keates' close relationship with the player while at Peterborough proving pivotal.

Martin's experience will be a huge asset as Walsall look to keep pace with the top-six in League One.
