Walsall will travel to Prenton Park in August for the first round of the competition, giving Cook a chance to face up against his former teammates.

Following the draw, the 27-year-old admitted that it was quite a surprise to see him heading back so quickly after leaving.

"I can’t wait." he told the Walsall club website.

"I’m a little bit shocked, I’ve only just left and I didn’t think it’d be that quick that I’d go back to play against them.

"I didn’t actually watch the draw because I was in the gym. I got a text when I came out to say we’d drawn Tranmere – I couldn’t believe it!

"It’ll be nice to go back and see what reaction they give me. I’d like to think I’ll get a good reception after what I did when I was there.

"I’m just going to treat it as any other game.

"At the end of the day, I’ll be going as a Walsall player and my ambition is to go and beat them."

Walsall will take on Rovers on the week commencing August 13th, with the winner securing their place in the second round of the competition - which has seen a number of rule changes this season.
