Guthrie played every minute of every game as the Saddlers spent a large chunk of last season in a relegation fight, finishing two points above the drop zone.

The 25-year-old was the oldest player to start for them in their final game at Fleetwood, which they lost 2-0.

“I think we could do with a few more (leaders),” said Guthrie.

“At Fleetwood, I was the oldest out there at 25 years old.

“You don’t find that often. We have got some older heads, like Skip (Adam Chambers).

“But when the games are coming thick and fast – and with us being down there – we could have done with a few more older heads to help us through.”
