George Dobson: Walsall must improve fast

And now the midfielder says the team must show more quality if they are to stay in League One.

The Saddlers let a two-goal lead slip to lose 3-2 against the Dons on Saturday.

That result has left them perilously close to the bottom four with bookmakers now tipping them to go down.

And Dobson admits the players have a lot to answer for heading into Saturday’s game at Scunthorpe.

“The boys are fuming – we have put ourselves in a position we should never be in,” Dobson said.

“Wimbledon wasn’t good enough. It wasn’t good enough for the fans and for us in general as players.

“To play the way we did at this point of the season is simply not good enough.

“It’s all about how we react at Scunthorpe now. We have to give everything and fight.

“None of us wants to be in League Two next season, we have to make sure we give everything so that doesn’t happen.”

Wimbledon’s victory arrived after they were incorrectly awarded a penalty deep into stoppage time.

But Dobson says the players must focus on their dismal showing in the second-half rather than that decision.

“It wasn’t a penalty,” the 20-year-old continued.

“But we can’t focus on that. The way we played in the second half was not good enough.

“That is what we have to look at if we are going to stay up. It’s not about one penalty decision.

“Wimbledon changed formation and we didn’t adapt.

“We conceded one and we caved in. That is something you cannot do as a professional footballer playing at League One standard.

“We let ourselves down massively. But we have got the chance to make it right and preserve our place in League One.

“All the boys have to come out firing against Scunthorpe to make sure we get a good result.”
