With the forthcoming fixtures seeing us play against teams all looking to obtain a play off spot or better, it was crucial that we got something out of Saturday's game at Gillingham.

Disappointingly, we set up for a draw, and ultimately that’s what we got.

Although he’s only on loan, Jack Fitzwater has settled into the team like a duck to, well, water.

Although he was the least glamorous of our deadline day signings, he’s proven in the short time that he’s been here that he’ll be key until he returns to the Albion.

You have to feel sorry for Kory Roberts, as he seemingly hasn’t done anything wrong, yet was dropped.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the pitch, Ama Bakayoko is seemingly undroppable, even though he probably needs a spell on the sidelines to get his confidence back.

Well, we have fourteen games to go, with only two against teams who – at present – have nothing to play for.

I hate being negative but even though we look like we’ll be safe, I still think we’ll stumble towards a safe tally of 52 points.

I’m guessing we’ll win three remaining games with a few draws too which will be more than enough, but it sounds woeful doesn’t it? Let's hope I'm not right!

On another note, it will be interesting to see how many people take up the early bird season tickets.

The club must be expecting a large dip due to the drift in relationship between club and fans.

Although encouraging steps have been taken recently, it does feel like it's too soon to change the opinion of those who had made up their minds.

I left Gillingham angrier than I have after some defeats.

It sounds odd considering we gained a point but that's how bad the performance was.

We went into the game on the back of a good mini run, so send the lads out positively.

Get them to play football whilst they're confident. Don't ask them to sit back and play like a club scraping for every last point.

That is the problem with Jon Whitney. It always seems we take one step forward and then two back. Now we face a more difficult run. And I feel failing to pick up a win at either Blackpool or Gillingham could turn out to be huge.

I can only see us being dragged right into the relegation battle once more. Let's hope I'm wrong.

The sooner we are safe, the sooner we can make changes to improve us next season.

So we have taken eight points from the last 12 available and when you are stuck in a relegation battle it's points that win prizes.

Nevertheless, it hasn't been pretty.

We played one of the worst teams in the league in MK Dons and grabbed a win.

We played another of the worst in Blackpool and grabbed a point and then dispatched Doncaster who were ever worse than the previous two teams mentioned!

That was followed by a long trip to Gillingham where we were dreadful.

We now face five of the top 10 sides which will be make or break. Get six or eight points then we only need two wins which should be easy enough.

We shouldn't be in this position though. Let's survive and then remove the manager and start building.

We cannot have a third year like the last two.
