Liam Roberts agrees Walsall contract extension

Promising goalkeeper Liam Roberts has committed his future to Walsall by signing a one-year contract extension.

The 22-year-old, whose current Saddlers deal expires at the end of the month, has put pen to paper on the new contract with includes an option for a further year in the club’s favour.

Roberts made his Walsall debut back in February 2016 in a League One clash against Millwall.

But the past few years have seen the shot stopper spend the majority of his time out on loan with the youngster impressing in spells at Gresley, Rainworth, Rushall Olympic, Southport and Chester.

And boss Whitney said he was keen to tie the glovesman down to a new deal so he can continue to work with goalkeeping coach Neil Cutler.

“Liam is a promising young goalkeeper who very much enjoys working under Neil Cutler,” Whitney said.

“We’re delighted that relationship will continue, and we’re looking for Liam to make a step up now.

“He has done well in spells elsewhere and didn’t let himself down in his senior bow under difficult circumstances.

“He knows where he has to improve and we’ll continue to work with him on his game in training."
