Dean Smith named Manager of the Month
Boss Dean Smith was today rewarded for Walsall's outstanding start to the season by picking up the League One Manager of the Month award for August.
The 44-year-old has led the Saddlers to four wins and a draw from their opening five league games, a run which has seen them rise to the top of the table.
Midfielder Sam Mantom missed out on the player's award, which was handed to Coventry City striker Adam Armstrong.
Smith said: ""When you're sat at the top of the league you're always going to get a bit of recognition.
"It's very pleasing to win but it's not just an award for me, it's for the staff and the team because without them you don't get nominated."
The Saddlers are back in action today with Bury the visitors to the Banks's Stadium.
Included in the squad will be former Villa midfielder Isaiah Osbourne, who signed a one-year deal with the club yesterday after turning down the chance to stay at Scunthorpe.
Smith added: "Isaiah has got all the credentials to be a really good player. He's a box-to-box midfielder who can break things up and nick a goal, as well."
