Walsall's Dean Smith gets special LMA award

Walsall manager Dean Smith has been handed a Special Achievement award by the League Managers Association.

The Saddlers boss was honoured last night at the LMA's annual award evening.

Smith, who has been in charge at the Banks's Stadium since 2011 and led the club to a historic first-ever game at Wembley last season, when they reached the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe was named the Association's manager of the year after taking the Cherries to the Premier League.

Jose Mourinho won the Premier League gong, with Bristol City's Steve Cotterill and Wycombe's Gareth Ainsworth winning the League One and League Two prizes respectively.

LMA chairman Howard Wilkinson said: "The LMA Annual Awards are a celebration of this season's managerial achievements across the top four leagues.

"There can be no greater tribute to a manager and his work than an accolade awarded by those in the very best possible position to evaluate success, his peers from within the professional game."
