Romaine Sawyers says sending Walsall fans home happy will be his main motivation in today's derby with Wolves.

The 22-year-old striker is preparing for the biggest game of his young career at the Banks's Stadium this afternoon.

A sell-out crowd is expected, as the Saddlers look to complete a league double over their Black Country rivals and Sawyers says he is well aware of the impact a win would mean for the home fans.

"Winning at Molineux earlier this season was amazing and that's what you like to do," he said.

"So many lives can be affected by 11 people performing well.

"The more we do that, the more we perform well, everyone will have a buzz whether it's us as players, coaching staff, the fans, the media – everyone that's related with the club will be happy and that's always got to be the goal."

Sawyers is no stranger to facing Wolves teams, having played them regularly while coming through the ranks at Albion.

But he says nothing can compare to a senior tie.

"I don't think I've played in a tie bigger than this, especially at home with so many fans cheering for your team," he said.

"The numbers haven't always been great this year but it's good to see that we've still got support, whether it's actually there on a Saturday with us or they're watching at home on Sky Sports News keeping up with us.

"It's good to always have support at your back and it gives you motivation to want to make other people's lives happy as well."

The forward joined the Saddlers from Albion last summer and admits his history gives him a further incentive to beat the Molineux men.

It's also a chance to get one over on old friends, with Sawyers revealing he is good friends with young Wolves stars Ethan Ebanks-Landell and David Davis.

"I haven't got anything personal against Wolves but with the clubs I've been affiliated with it makes sense for me to want to get one over on them," he said.

"I was with Albion since I was seven years old and it did a lot for my footballing education so it's always a club I will hold in regard. With Wolves being a rival club to them and being a rival for Walsall, it's like a double win for me if we were to win.

"I played against Ash (Hemmings) for Albion when we beat them 5-1 in a youth team game. It's always been a good battle – there's always that derby edge whether it's been at schoolboy level or under-16s or youth team up to first team, there's always that desire to get one over your rivals, you can feel it."
