Walsall FC ideal for me, says Sam Mantom
New Walsall star Sam Mantom today revealed he snubbed other clubs to come to his "ideal" place.
The 20-year-old penned an 18-month deal at the Banks's Stadium yesterday after being released by Albion.
It followed a successful 10-game loan spell and Mantom insisted it was the perfect chance to continue his career ahead of tomorrow's trip to Preston.
He said: "There were one or two other clubs interested in me, but this is the ideal place for me. I know how the gaffer and Richard O'Kelly work and what they expect so I will hit the ground running, plus the style we play here suits my game.
"On top of that, I'm around young players who have a similar mindset to myself – they enjoy their football and are prepared to work hard for each other.
"It ticks all the boxes for me and I'm really excited."
Mantom has helped the Saddlers to 14th in League One after four wins in their last five games to move 14 points clear of the drop zone.
And he is looking for the side to maintain their recent good form tomorrow as they look to close the seven-point gap to the play-offs. He said: "If we keep doing the right things and stick together there's no reason why we can't be up there."
