King's Langley 1 Stourbridge 4 - Report

TASKMASTER Ian Long insists there is still room for improvement despite overseeing Stourbridge’s 4-1 victory at King’s Langley.

A slow-burning first half burst to life when Tom Tonks was clipped in the box with Tom Turton rolling in the penalty six minutes before the interval.

Kyle Connolly levelled with a rebound moments later but there was still time for Jordan Williams to volley home a long throw from Tonks that nicked off the head of a home defender before half-time.

The Glassboys gradually made their presence felt in the second half with Chay Tilt’s 25-yard blockbuster having rode a foul stamping their authority 18 minutes from time.

The result was wrapped up by substitute Andre Landell firing in off the post late on to keep Stour right in the thick of the early pacesetters in Southern League Premier Division Central.

“I didn’t think we were great first half,” revealed Long.

“We tweaked a few things at half-time and it was much improved from there. We took control and scored some good goals to be fair.

“The grass was long and that slowed the tempo but that probably did us a favour in the first half because we were not at the races.

“In the end Charlie Price had one shot to save in the second half, Chay Tilt scored a cracker on his full league debut and that gave us the push and confidence to really start to keep the ball.

“We are still a work in progress. Looking at the squad we picked, Tom Tonks missed a lot of pre-season, Brad Birch missed all of pre-season, Aaron Lloyd has not been selected and Kieron Cook has missed a lot of games, so a lot of players are getting up to speed at the moment.

“There is a lot more to come.”
