Justin Richards makes swift Hednesford Town exit

Justin Richards has left Hednesford Town a month after signing for the club.

The 37-year-old striker joined the Pitmen on June 5, when the club thought they would be part of the new Evo-Stik Southern League Central.

Shaw Lane folding, though, saw Hednesford moved back to the Evo-Stik Northern Premier – since having an appeal turned down – and Richards cannot commit to the extra travel.

Boss Rob Smith said: "It is disappointing to lose Justin as he was a player that we had been chasing for a while and was going to add some great experience, strength and most importantly goals to the team.

“We totally understand his decision though, as he had signed when we were allocated a place in the new Southern League Central, and we wish him all the best for the future.”

Richards has played for Kidderminster Harriers and Stourbridge, and ended last season with Sutton Coldfield Town.

The Pitmen begin their pre-season campaign on Monday with a short trip to Heath Hayes (7.45pm).
