Witton Albion 1 Stourbridge 0 - Report

Stourbridge suffered late heartache as they lost out to a goal two minutes from time, making it just one point from their last for games.

It looked as though the Glassboys would head back from Witton with a hard-earned share of the spoils only for the visiting defence to be caught out by a corner and Tom Owens crashed his header into the back of the net.

The home side started the better and twice went close in the opening 15 minutes. First Owens drilled a volley over the target after finding space on the far post and then Steve Tames looked to have beaten Matt Gould only for the Stourbridge keeper to gather before the ball crossed the line.

Witton continued to press and went close again midway through the half, this time McKenna firing into the side-netting.

Stourbridge struggled to create anything of note in the first half and it was a similar story early in the second period.

On loan Wolves winger Nicolae Carnat joined the action with 20 minutes to go but it was Witton who looked the more likely to break the deadlock, Tames seeing a fierce drive deflected just wide of Gould’s goal.

Once Owens had finally found the back of the net, the Glassboys pushed for an equaliser but not even four extra minutes was enough to see them seriously test Calvin Hare in the Albion goal.

Gary Hackett’s side head to another of the play-off contenders on Saturday when they take on Farsley Celtic.
