Buxton 5 Stafford Rangers 1 - Report

Stafford Rangers remain rooted to the foot of the table after a comprehensive defeat at a freezing cold Buxton.

The hosts started the livelier with former Hednesford midfielder Reece King and Callum Chippendale testing Lewis King in the Boro goal early on and Stafford’s bad luck was compounded when Joe Cuff had to come off following a clash of heads after just 12 minutes.

The breakthrough came on 24 minutes when a corner was whipped in causing problems for the Boro defence and Chipendale duly prodded the ball home.

Six minutes later the lead was doubled when Diego DiGirolamo ran on to a through ball, rounded the keeper and tapped into the empty net.

Matty Hill pulled one back for Boro as he took advantage of a defensive error to give the visitors hope but that hope was dashed on 73 minutes when Connor O’Grady headed home from a corner to restore the two-goal lead.

That lead was extended on 77 minutes when Liam Hardy netted as Buxton started to coast home and then, just to rub salt into Stafford’s wounds, DiGirolamo added a fifth on 87 minutes.
