Stafford Rangers snap up four-some Declan Arber

Stafford Rangers have signed striker Declan Arber after a four-goal salvo for the club’s youth side.

Rangers boss Steve Burr has bolstered his attacking options after Arber tore apart Walsall Wood in a 5-2 victory for Boro’s under-18s last week.

Burr was present for that clash at Oak Park and thoroughly impressed with Arber, who partnered 16-year-old Lucas Burnett – another who has penned first-team forms over the summer, and grabbed the other on the night – in attack.

It is understood that the teenager, like Burnett, will carry on playing for the under-18s but train with the first team and look to force his way into Burr’s side.

Arber is from the town and has previously been prolific in the youth ranks for Eccleshall and Brocton.

Meanwhile, Rangers coach Alex Meechan is disappointed not to have beat Mickleover Sports on Monday. Kyle Perry got the Boro goal in a 1-1 draw.

“We got ragged, we stopped winning the first contacts and the second balls,” said Meechan.

“We were giving away silly free-kicks, which we’ve spoke about.

“Them silly free-kicks, the silly things we spoke about, we were doing too often. That’s what has cost us the game.

“And we’re not doing enough in that 18-yard box to win games at the minute. In the final third, we need more movement.”
