Burr is succeeding Neil Kitching, who left this week after four years at Marston Road, in the Rangers hotseat.

The 58-year-old has previously managed Kidderminster Harriers, Chester and, most recently, Stalybridge Celtic.

"It's a massive club. This was the start of my career as a footballer, here," said Burr.

"I'm really looking forward to managing the club. It's a club that has always been very close to my heart.

"It'll be a challenge to get out of the division, but I'm ready for the challenge.

"I know one or two of the players already and ready to move the club forward.

"I want success. I'm not as young as I was, but I'm hungry as ever.

"I want to get together a side that's great to watch."

Boro do not yet know which league they are going to be in for next season – it will either be the Premier of the Evo-Stik Northern League again, or the new Central League.

Either way, Burr is well-versed in the rigours of non-league having also managed Southport, Northwich Victoria, Hucknall Town and Nuneaton Borough.

"Hopefully I can deliver. I can't promise results, but I'll give it 100 per cent – carry on building on what the previous guys have left behind," he said.

"The club means a lot, to a lot of people.

"If we can hit the ground running, hopefully we can get some more through the gates – and give that extra bit to the playing budget, should we need it.

"What supporters want to see is a team giving it everything. I'm excited to get going."

And on who will be in his backroom town, Burr added: "Andy Fearn, who's been with me for the past 10-15 years, will be coming in as my assistant.

"We'll have a look at the potential of bringing in a player-coach, or a first team coach.

"By the end of the month, I should have a better picture of who'll be helping me out."
