It was Warrington who started well and straight from kick-off Jamie McDonald forced a smart save from the goalkeeper.

Rangers responded and Tyrell Waite will feel he should have done better when he connected with a deep cross at back post but sent his effort over.

Massiah McDonald was next to go close for Neil Kitching’s side shooting from 25 yards out but with the goalkeeper beaten the ball curled wide.

The Yellows were also probing for an opener and a swift counter-attack on the half hour mark resulted in Sean Williams firing over.

Kieran Morris saw his header fly just off target for Rangers after connecting with a free-kick of Luke Pilling’s right hand post.

It was a long throw which nearly caught the Boro napping with the ball falling to William Hayhurst who swiped wide from 10 yards out.

Ranger’s skipper Josh Craddock was next to try his luck after McDonald found space but his shot was off-balance and lacked any power.

McDonald went close himself moments later capitalising on a defensive mistake on the edge of the box before firing just over the bar.

However, Warrington remained in the tie and in the closing stage substitute Joseph Piggot’s shot was charged down but fell to Mathias Bakare unmarked inside the box but he shot high and wide.

Then with the last kick of the match the Yellows almost snatched victory with Jack Higgins through on goal, his effort was saved by the goalkeeper’s legs only for Jamie McDonald to waste the rebound.
