Westwood, 26, joined Boro this summer after more than a year of interest from Boro chief Kitching following his goalscoring exploits for Wolverhampton Sporting in the West Midlands Premier.

He came close to joining the Marston Road side last season, but instead opted for AFC Telford United in National League North.

After a change in management, though, he was allowed to leave and swiftly signed for Evo-Stik Premier side Rangers.

He has scored a few goals over pre-season games, including the 2-2 draw with Kidsgrove Athletic on Tuesday night, and said: “I am really enjoying it, we have played some good sides over pre-season and the games have been good.

“It was a shame it didn’t work out at Telford, but things could turn out even better for me here.

“It’s about repaying the manager for the faith he has shown in me and the belief he’s had in me, and looking to do well for the team.

“I just can’t wait for the season to get started now, pre-season feels like it has dragged on for a while now.”

Rangers’ season starts at Altrincham on August 12, and their final friendly is against at home on Saturday.

Westwood added: “I have been made to feel at home, straight away. They are a great bunch of lads.”
