Stafford Rangers have bolstered their attack with the signing of Dan Westwood – after a year-long chase of the prolific centre forward.

Westwood, aged 26, caught the attention of plenty of non-league clubs with his goalscoring exploits for West Midlands Premier side Wolverhampton Sporting.

He reached 100 goals in just 72 games for them, and netted 60 last term before jumping up five divisions to join AFC Telford United in National League North.

The Wolverhampton-based teacher had little game time there though, and was told he could leave after former Hednesford Town boss Rob Smith was sacked and replaced by ex-Wolves interim manager Rob Edwards.

He has dropped a division to join Evo-Stik Premier side Boro, who have also signed Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson and Tommy Cooney, and boss Neil Kitching said: “We have chased him for 12 months. As soon as we knew he was leaving Telford, we jumped at the chance to get him in.”
