The man nicknamed 'Shoota' by fans helped Rangers to a 1-1 draw at Coalville Town on Saturday, with the point enough to secure the Evo Stik First Division South title for Neil Kitching's men.

But it was almost a disaster when Boro almost lost the match in the dying seconds – with Coalville's keeper almost wrecking the promotion party in front of 600 travelling Rangers fans.

He was left free in the six-yard box in injury time but smashed his chance over the bar to give Rangers the title.

Daniel, who hung up his boots after lifting the trophy on his 435th appearance in a Rangers shirt and collecting his first title, said: "The feeling is unbelievable; relief, joy, ecstasy in front of these fans here it's brilliant.

"The support is unbelievable and that is what this is for the fans out there.

"The last few years we've been down in the doldrums but days like today make me proud.

"I'm going out on a high and thank God their goalkeeper blazed it over the bar.

"I'm going to spend some time with my kids as for the last 20 years it has been every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

"The lads have been brilliant all season and showed why we are best in the league."
