In a lively opening, both sides threatened to open the scoring. Josh Hawker went close for Rushall after two minutes before Thomas Peers fired into the side netting down the other end.

Hawker went close again on 34 minutes, this time creating some space for himself through the middle before shooting right footed. His low effort cannoned off Anthony Thompson’s left post before rebounding to safety.

It was the Pics that broke the deadlock right on the stroke of half time thanks to a Sam Whittall header. Mathis Fonovich did well to keep the ball in on the far side and dink in a cross that the Rushall captain nodded into the bottom corner.

Rushall nearly doubled the lead on 66 minutes when Danny Waldron got on the end of a deep Andre Landell cross. His header was brilliantly kept out by Altrincham keeper Thompson low to his left.

Jordan Hulme was inches away from an equaliser for the visitors in the 69th minute when he rifled in a half volley from the edge of the box. It cannoned off the crossbar and away to safety

The three points were sealed for Rushall after 88 minutes when Danny Waldron cut inside from the left channel. He kept his cool to smash past Thompson to keep the Pics’ excellent run going.
