McDonald, aged 32, recently parted ways with National League side Solihull Moors.

He is the permanent successor to Wayne Thomas, who the Pics sacked after a poor run of form saw them scrapping around the bottom of the Evo-Stik Premier.

“It’s nice to get straight back in and I can’t wait to get started,” said McDonald.

“This is a good, well-run football club and I’ll be working with an exciting group of young players that I will be looking to develop.

“It’s a challenge that I face with relish and I feel that I can get the club moving up the table."

McDonald was in charge of Hednesford for a short spell last season and a good start there caught the eye of Moors, who he managed to keep up last term.

“I was preparing to take a break from football, to be honest, but I had a really positive conversation with the chairman (John Allen) and watched the recent game against Barwell," he added.

" As I was travelling home I knew straight away that this was the place that I wanted to be and somewhere I can make an impact.

“I firmly believe that my coaching staff and I can add something to what is already here.

"It’s a new group of players for us to work with and we are excited by the prospect.”

His managerial team will be made up of Nick Green, David Bridgwater and Trevor Burroughs.
