Southport 1 Kidderminster Harriers 2 - Report

Kidderminster Harriers made one change from the side that lost 1-0 to York City two weeks ago, Ed Williams replaced Ollie Shenton who dropped to the bench whilst Declan Weeks came onto the bench as Harriers went without a substitute goalkeeper in the squad.

Harriers away form over the season has been impressive despite their lowly 15th place league position and they came to the Pure Stadium having not conceded on their travels for 317 minutes.

The visitors should have netted with their opening attack, Ed Williams rounded Ryan Astles but from his right wing cross Ashley Hemmings could only hook the ball the wrong side of the post.

Southport drew first blood, Jack Doyle’s left wing centre was partially cleared by Cliff Moyo to the waiting David Morgan whose 20 yard volley beat Will Mannion via the right upright.

Within five minutes Harriers were level Rhys Williams delivered a long throw that centre back Keith Lowe glanced across Dan Hanford for a 25th minute equaliser.

Mannion kept Harriers on level terms with a 36th minute block to keep out Adam Anson’s header whilst Hanford stood firm to gather Ashley Chambers strike at goal five minutes before the break as both sides struggled with the conditions.

Jack Sanders had an early opportunity to put the home side ahead but fired wide after beating three Harriers defenders and Reagen Ogle saw his strike turned aside by Mannion as both sides battled for supremacy.

Harriers responded Ed Williams having his drive beaten away by Hanford, before Ashley Chambers fired over.

The deciding goal arrived on 69 minutes, Russell Benjamin’s pass was intercepted by Ed Williams who teed up Ashley Hemmings to fire an unstoppable 25 yard effort beyond the home keeper to give the visitors all three points.
