Kidderminster Harriers inconsistent start to the league campaign continued at the Merseyrail Community Stadium as they recorded a second victory on the road

John Eustace.

It was goals from Will Longbottom and a second half brace from Andre Brown settled the game in the visitors favour.

John Eustace was enforced into four changes to the side held by Curzon Ashton in midweek.

Injuries to key players, James McQuilkin, Joe Ironside and Dan Bradley were added to on the morning of the game when Ryan Croasdale unavailable due to personal reasons.

Southport responded to manager Alan Lewer’s rallying call following the 6-0 defeat at Stockport in midweek with a promising start, Yves Zama and Curtis Jones going close as Harriers struggled.

Both sides showed early nerves as they struggled to find any momentum, but Harriers gradually got a foothold in the game, Sam Austin and Fraser Horsfall putting efforts narrowly wide.

On 26 minutes Elton Ngwatala worked on opening only to be denied by the reactions of Mark Halstead, to earn Harriers their first corner.

Declan Weeks’ delivery caught the home defence in disarray, Andre Brown and Mani Sonupe both had shots cleared off the line. A home defender then lashed an attempted clearance against the underside of the bar and Will Longbottom reacted quickly to stab the ball home for his first Harriers goal.

The Southport defence were opened up again as Declan Weeks and Tyrone Williams both went close to adding to their advantage before the interval.

The game became scrappy with players of both sides receiving yellow cards as frustration showed, but Harriers maintained their discipline to seal the victory four minutes from time.

Horsfall and Ngwatala combined to release Joel Taylor and his pass into the path of Andre Brown saw the striker complete the scoring with a long range strike.
