Warrington Town 4 Hednesford Town 1 - Report

Hednesford Town fell to defeat against automatic promotion hopefuls Warrington Town thanks to three goals from two former Pitmen players.

The visitors saw Anthony Dwyer going straight into the starting line-up after the frontman had arrived from AFC Telford United earlier in the day.

Rob Smith’s side had made the perfect possible start to the game when they went ahead in the eighth minute as Danny Glover was on hand to head home his third goal in two games.

The home side saw appeals for a penalty waved away three minutes later before they went even closer in the 20th minute as Steven Jennings shot was cleared off the line before James Wren made a fine save to deny Sean Williams.

Back came the Pitmen nine minutes later with Tom Thorley shooting narrowly wide from the edge of the box.

The home side would draw themselves level in the 37th minute though when former Pitmen player Williams curled a low freekick into the back of the net.

Six minutes later they were ahead when another former Hednesford player, Devarn Green, broke forward and smartly finished past Wren.

Just when Hednesford needed a good start to the second half they found themselves further behind nine minutes into it as Tony Gray muscled off his man before firing home.

Although the Pitmen made all three substitutes as the half wore on there was little when it came to actual goalmouth action.

Instead it would be the hosts that would extend their lead with nine minutes remaining as Williams curled another delightful freekick low into the bottom corner.

The Pitmen must now turn their attentions towards Saturday’s trip to Buxton as they look to put this result behind them.
