The former Walsall striker, aged 35, has been handed the role after an impressive spell in caretaker charge, winning four of eight games and reaching the Staffordshire Senior Cup semi-finals.

Marvin Robinson will serve as his assistant, Gavin Hurren as first team coach, Mark Kavanagh as goalkeeping coach and Gavin Blackwell as physio – which was the case during Birch's temporary stint at Keys Park.

"I am delighted. What we have done is steadied the ship and got the results the club were looking for," said Birch.

"We are now looking to take the club forward.

"The lads have responded well to what we have been saying to them and I think that has had a big part to play in the club's decision.

"Obviously we have been working very hard behind-the-scenes and now we are looking have a strong finish to the season."

Birch was prolific as a player in non-league, particularly during a four-year stint at Chasetown.

With Robinson, Hurren and Kavanagh completing the management team, Birch believes they all have a lot to offer.

"I have said before that we all bring something different to the table," he added.

"I would like to think, as a four, there is not a better management team in the area."

Hednesford – who are 12th in the Evo-Stik Premier, nine points off the play-offs – travel to Coalville Town on Saturday.
