A woman in her 60s was struck by a flare thrown during the Black Country derby over the weekend.

Two flares, one blue and one red, were thrown onto the pitch at the War Memorial Athletic Ground in Amblecote during the Number Nine Derby on Saturday, which Halesowen won 2-1

Now Stourbridge's board of directors have spoken out, saying they are working with the police to identify those responsible and will ban them once they are found.

A statement reads: "The club wishes to express its anger over the events of Saturday where 2 flares/smoke bombs were thrown during the course of the match, the second resulting in a lady supporting Halesowen Town suffering burns to the neck.

"Stourbridge FC will work alongside our close neighbours Halesowen Town , K2 Security Services and West Midlands Police in identifying those who are responsible for throwing the flares.

"The club will ban those responsible and wish to remind people that throwing a flare can result in a custodial sentence.

"The club is now awaiting reports from the FA and the Police."
