Chasetown 1 Spalding United 2 - Report and pictures

The Tulips took the lead after just four minutes. Chasetown appealed for an offside that never came and Joel Brownhill gave the visitors the lead.

Chasetown were a whisker away from a leveller in the 22nd minute. George Cater was quickest to a loose ball and lobbed keeper Michael Duggan but was inches wide of the post.

The equaliser came a minute later. Joe Brown crossed from the left and skipper Ryan Wynter powered a header that looped over Duggan.

A minute before half time Cater curled in a free kick that Duggan got down to save in front of his body.

Chasetown started the second half as they ended the first and Brown fired a foot over the bar with a 20 yard shot within 5 minutes of the restart.

The home side continued to dominate and Jack Langston twice tried his luck to provide the breakthrough.

Totally against the run of play, United regained their lead with their first attack of the second half. George Zuerner slid the ball through to Kegan Everington who steered the ball home at the near post.

The home side were immediately back on level terms. Substitute Danny Cocks twisted and turned in the penalty area and shot past Duggan deflected into his own net by Taron Hare.

Chasetown felt they should have had a penalty into the final five minutes. Levi Reid motored past the Tulips left back and tumbled under the challenge. Referee Mr Pearson deemed the challenge fair.

In a dramatic final passage of play, Langston twice saw shots blocked, as did Cocks in a flurry of five shots that somehow the visitors blocked everyone and survived.
