The Scholars almost made it two with neat build up play outside the box and Jack Langston fired inches wide of the post.

A minute before the break Chasetown deservedly doubled their lead. Nesbitt’s cross was spilled by Jake Davis and Jake Lovatt slid the ball into an unguarded net.

The visitors found their way back into the game nine minutes into the second half. Curtis Pond pulled off a great low save to his left from Kevin Nickle and Mark Morgan was quickest to the rebound to reduce the deficit.

Chasetown tried to regain the upper hand and an acrobatic overhead kick from Nick Wellecomme was narrowly wide of the upright.

Wednesfield were reduced to ten men inside the last ten minutes when Harrison Barrett was red carded for a late challenge on Callum Lovatt.

Wellecomme then turned provider and Danny Cocks rattled the crossbar with a curling effort.

Chasetown finally put the game to bed in the final minute of normal time when substitute Will Whieldon beat the offside trap and placed the ball beyond Davis.
