A minute later Lovatt was pulled to the ground and Jack Langston sent George the wrong way from the penalty spot.

Sports reduced the deficit just before the half hour. Curtis Pond made a stunning save and then Mike O’Reilly headed off the line before Oliver Medwynter forced the ball over the line.

The visitors levelled in the 34th minute as Jordan Macleod placed a shot beyond Pond from inside the penalty area.

Chasetown restored their lead five minutes into the second half. Oli Hayward was first to a loose ball and got sent tumbling in the penalty area. Langston converted his second penalty high to George’s right.

Two minutes later, Langston reacted quickest as the ball bounced up between three players and lashed a left footer home to complete his hat trick.

Sports reduced the lead again in the 57th minute through centre back Sam Hill and on the hour it was 4-4 with substitute Andre Williams volleying home with his first touch after his introduction.

Chasetown restored their lead again in the 65th minute as Lovatt cut in from the right and smashed the ball past George at his near post.

Peterborough pushed for an equaliser but Chasetown stood firm.
