Play-off chase coming home

Chasetown manager Scott Dundas is looking forward to returning home after back-to-back away wins in the league.

Dundas’s side welcome Peterborough Sports to the Scholars Ground tomorrow (3pm) after victories on the road at Leek Town and Newcastle Town, writes Sam Tonks.

And with the Scholars firmly in the race for the Evo-Stik League Division One South play-offs, Dundas is excited to be back in front of their home supporters.

“We picked up two great away wins, so the team is buoyant, particularly with the last performance,” he said.

“It’ll be a difficult game but we’re looking forward to it – it will be good to be playing at home again after two away trips.”

A win on Saturday would be Chasetown’s third in a row, something Dundas believes could build vital momentum for the second half of the season.

“Any win kick-starts momentum, the lads have done very well so far and to get a third win would be tremendous,” said Dundas.

Although the Scholars held on to beat Leek, they lost defender Calum Lovatt and midfielder Will Wheldon to red cards – both of whom will be suspended tomorrow – but Tom Urwin is in contention after returning from injury.

“They’re both suspended, but Tom has trained very well this week and is back in contention, if not for Saturday then for the Lincoln game,” he said.

Dundas’s side sit two points off the play-off positions at the moment and a win at the weekend would certainly boost hopes of reaching those spots, but he’s making sure they don’t get carried away.

“It wasn’t our expectation at the beginning of the season, we just wanted to make sure we were a competitive mid-table team,” said the manager. “The lads have put themselves in a great position and to get into those spots would be a tremendous achievement.

“We’re just taking every game as it comes, we’re focused and we just go for the wins.”

It was a 3-2 win for the Scholars in the reverse fixture and though the visitors now sit 18th in the table, Dundas expects a difficult game.

“We’ve both changed since, they’ll play differently and so will we,” he said. “We adapt to every new game, like we always do, stay focused and go out to win.

“Hopefully we can do that on Saturday.”
