Gresley 0 Chasetown 4 - Report and pictures

Chasetown ended the year with a huge away win.

Published

Chasetown started brightly and had two early penalty appeals down before taking the lead in the 14th minute.

Will Whieldon found space and slipped the ball to an unmarked George Cater who found the net from 6 yards.

The Scholars doubled their lead in the 35th minute. Jack Langston fired goalwards from long range, Callum Hawkins could only parry and Cater tapped home from close range.

A third goal wasn't far away and Whieldon kept the ball alive rather than allowing the ball to run out for a corner and whipped in a cross that Matt Gardner rose well to bury a header.

Langston capitalised on a defensive error and was clean through on goal, only to be denied at his near post by Hawkins.

Gresley’s Matt Melbourne was denied a comeback goal with a phenomenal Curtis Pond save at full length to keep the ball from flying into the top corner of the net.

Cater completed his hat trick latching onto an exquisite Oli Hayward through ball with a cool curling finish beyond Hawkins to seal an emphatic away win.
